Essex-Windsor EMS acts as the Public Access Defibrillator coordinators for the County of Essex, the City of Windsor and the Township of Pelee. Any facility, through means of private purchase or funding through the Heart and Stroke Ontario Defibrillator Access Initiative (ODAI) can be considered for an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

What is an AED?

Automated External Defibrillator

An Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable lifesaving device that quickly and safely evaluates the electrical activity of a victim’s heart and determines if the heart would benefit from applying a “shock” of energy. Together with CPR, early defibrillation can dramatically increase the survival rate for someone who has suffered cardiac arrest.

How do I get an AED?

To acquire an AED, please contact the Essex-Windsor EMS Professional Standards Division at 519-776-6441 ext 2653.

Our Professional Standards Division will be happy to assist you with possible provincial funding application or your private purchase. Once you receive your AED, they will then arrange for installation and training.

To register your AED with Essex-Windsor EMS, please complete our AED Registration Form and our database will be updated to include the location of your AED.

CPR certification information

Essex-Windsor EMS offers CPR and Automated External Defibrillation training and certification through the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Please fill out our CPR/AED Course Registration form and someone from our Professional Standards Division will contact you.
