The Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee (ECAAC)

In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the County of Essex has a municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee, known as the ECAAC. The committee is comprised of residents of Essex County who are persons with disabilities or stakeholders in the disability community. 

The ECAAC is a very active committee, who works year-round to promote inclusiveness, and share information and awareness surrounding accessibility. The committee typically meets every second Thursday of the month. 

Previous committee activities have included:

  • Reviewing County of Essex policies and procedures for accessibility;
  • Reviewing County of Essex blueprints and designs;
  • Touring the Sun Parlor Home for suggestions and comments to improve accessibility;
  • Touring Essex Region Conservation Authroity (ERCA) facilities for suggestions and comments to improve accessibility;
  • Organize and promote yearly accessibility awareness events (workshops, walks, etc.);
  • Support community initaitives surrounding accessibility (Access Awareness Week, International Day of persons with Disabilities);
  • Formulates discussions, manages a social media presence and attends events to contribute to improving accessibility for Essex County.

Applicant eligibility criteria:

  • Resident, owner or tenant of land in Essex County;
  • Canadian citizen;
  • At least 18 years of age or older;
  • Not prohibited by law from voting in a municipal election;
  • Not an employee of the Corporation of the County of Essex or the Essex County Library Board.
