In accordance with the County of Essex Procedure By-law No.61-2007, following the election of a County Warden, Essex County Council elects a Deputy Warden to act from time to time in the place of the Warden when the Warden is absent. The Deputy Warden may exercise all the rights and powers of the Warden.

The term of office of the Deputy Warden is the same as the term of Council. A new Deputy Warden was elected on Wednesday, December 8th, 2010.  Mayor Gary McNamara from the Town of Tecumseh was elected for the term December 2010 to November 2014.
