Welcome to the County of Essex Planning Services

The Planning Services advises County Council on all planning matters related to current and long range land use, economic development, and strategic planning. In addition, the Department provides resources to other departments, local municipalities, and is an information provider to the public and business sector. The Planning Section is also involved with policy development and special purpose studies, such as the County Transportation Master Plan and the Housing Analysis and Recommended Strategies Study.

Planning Services is not engaged in local planning activities except as a commenting agency and as Approval Authority for local Official Plans, local Official Plan Amendments, Plans of Subdivision/Condominium, and Part Lot Control. This section reviews and comments on consent, minor variance and development applications adjacent to County Roads.

Planning Services is located on the upper level of the Civic Centre in Suite 302 (adjacent to Committee Room E).

The Manager of Planning Services, Bill King, is responsible for the Planning and Emergency Management Coordination Services section of Administration.
