The Human Resources division supports the achievement of the County of Essex’s goals and objectives by providing strategic human resources management solutions in the areas of recruitment and selection, employee and labour relations, job evaluation and pay equity, policy and procedure development, orientation and training, and occupational health and safety.
The County employs approximately over 800 full-time, part-time, and temporary staff. Positions are within our non-union group and five bargaining units, which includes a Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) unit at the Sun Parlor Home; a CUPE unit including employees at the Civic Centre and within the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA), a CUPE unit which includes the paramedic group; an Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA); and a Teamster unit in Engineering/Road Maintenance.
The Department offers Human Resources support to allied agencies on a fee for service basis. In addition, Human Resources has provided various resources to local municipalities on labour related compensation, health, and welfare benefit issues.
