Paramedic Qualifications
In order to become employed in Ontario as a paramedic at any level, a person must hold an Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (A/EMCA) qualification or hold training and qualifications deemed equivalent by the Director, Emergency Health Services Branch.
In this section you will find the duties of a paramedic outlined in the job description, the prerequisites necessary to enroll in the Primary Care Paramedic course at one of the Ontario colleges offering certified Paramedic Programs (see Links), information on the A/EMCA provincial certification exam, and what is necessary to qualify as a Primary Care Paramedic or Advanced Care Paramedic with Essex-Windsor EMS.
Essex-Windsor EMS provides presentations to schools and other community groups on emergency services, in addition to providing First Aid Coverage at Special Events. To request EMS at your Special Event, please complete our online Special Event Request Form at least two weeks in advance of your event. Questions? Email Us.
Essex-Windsor EMS offers a “Cool Aid” program. The “Cool Aid” program is a form which, once completed, is a way to help identify potential high-risk patients in emergency situations. The information on the form is used to assist paramedics in rendering the proper medical treatment if you are unable to communicate with them at the time of the emergency. It includes information about medical conditions, past history, current medications and allergies. There is also a provision for emergency contacts. Once you have completed the form it is to be placed on the front of your refrigerator with a magnet. To obtain a form(s) either open and print the form below or Email Us.
