First Aid & Safety Tips

When someone is injured or suddenly becomes ill, there is usually a critical period before you can get medical treatment and it is this period that is of the utmost importance to the victim. “How Do You Know When It’s an Emergency” guides you through the steps to follow in an emergency. Things are less likely to go wrong if you can stay calm, focus on the situation at hand, and get help.

In the First Aid section you will learn how to stock a first-aid kit and first aid tips for bleeding, broken bones, burns, choking, seizures and stroke.

Most of the information contained in the Safety Tips section is common sense, but there may be something you haven't considered. You’ll find information on how to stay safe in all kinds of situations including babysitting, bike riding, cold weather, snow shovelling and even around the house.

Essex-Windsor EMS offers a “Cool Aid” program. The “Cool Aid” program is a form which, once completed, is a way to help identify potential high-risk patients in emergency situations. The information on the form is used to assist paramedics in rendering the proper medical treatment if you are unable to communicate with them at the time of the emergency. It includes information about medical conditions, past history, current medications and allergies. There is also a provision for emergency contacts. Once you have completed the form it is to be placed on the front of your refrigerator with a magnet. To obtain a form(s) either open and print the form below or Email Us.
