County Credit Rating Affirmed
Representatives of Standard and Poor’s, a leading authority of financial market intelligence, credit rating valuation, investment research, and risk evaluation, conducted its annual financial / economical review of Essex County. The purpose of the review was to gather and update information regarding the political, administrative, and financial stewardship of the County, to review the Corporation’s physical asset management practices, reserve strategy, budget performance, to review the status of residential, commercial and industrial development activity, to conduct informal discussions regarding the strengths, weaknesses and diversity of the local economy, to examine the relative strength of local municipalities, and to solicit administrative opinions regarding future challenges and opportunities, particularly regarding the management of municipal infrastructure.
Based on the Corporation’s sound financial management practices including: projected capital spending/debt analysis; reserve and cash flow management practices/targets and service delivery statistics, Standard & Poor’s has consistently awarded Essex County AA- credit rating.
The ratings on the County of Essex, in the Province of Ontario (AA-/Stable/A-1+), reflect the county’s low and declining debt burden on a stand-alone basis, healthy liquidity, and stable budgetary performance.
