Capacity & Safety Improvements of the CR 22 & CR 19 Intersection

The intersection at County Road 19 and County Road 22 sees in excess of 40,000 vehicles per day and is a strategic arterie within the County Road network. The current setup of the intersection promotes stop and go patterns with significant delays and creates increased safety risks.

County Council awarded the $6.9 million contract on May 17, 2017 and work has gotten underway as of May 29, 2017. Completion of the project is expected in November of 2017.

Proposed Work

The proposed capacity and safety improvements consists of adding additional turning lanes:

  • Double left turn lane from Eastbound CR 22 to Northbound CR 19
  • Double left turn from Northbound CR 19 to Westbound CR 22
  • Right turn lane from Westbound CR 22 to Northbound CR 19
  • Right turn lane from Northbound CR 19 to Eastbound CR 22
  • Additional through lane for Northbound CR 19, North of CR 22

 Anticipated Staging

The project will require six anticipated stages. The complex amount of staging requires numerous lane shifts in a variety of configurations during the life of the project. This is done to try an mitigate as much disruption to traffic flow as possible. Throughout the duration of the contruction, it is anticipated that CR 22 will remain open, but will be reduced to a single lane in each direction. There will be times when CR 19 will be closed for a short duration.
