Background information

Public health programs keep our community healthy! The Health Unit promotes improved health by:

  • Preventing disease and injury
  • Controlling threats to human life
  • Improving social conditions so everyone has a chance at good health.

The Board of Health for Windsor and Essex County is the governing body that oversees delivery of mandatory programs and service guidelines developed by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Ministry of Health Promotion, and Ministry of Children and Youth Services.

Essex County Council appointed the following 4 County Councillors to the Health Unit for the term of Council December 2014 to November 2018:
