The Warden is the head of the Council of the County of Essex. The County's procedure by-law sets the term of office of the County Warden to be the same as the 4 year term of Council. The Warden's election is held the 2nd Wednesday in December in the same year as the municipal election. County Council elects the Warden by secret ballot. The next election for Warden will take place on Wednesday, December 12, 2018.

The Warden's election and Council's inaugural meeting was held on December 10, 2014. Council elected Tom Bain, Mayor of the Town of Lakeshore as the Warden. He will be Warden from December 1, 2014 to November 30, 2018. Mr. Bain was also Warden from December 1992 to November 1993 and from December 2010 to November 2014.

The County's procedure by-law also sets the term of office for the Deputy Warden. After the Warden's election, Council elects a Deputy Warden. This is also by secret ballot. The Deputy Warden position will act from time to time in the place of the Warden when he is absent. The Deputy Warden may have the same rights and powers as the Warden.

The term of office of the Deputy Warden is the same as the term of Council. Council elected Ken Antaya, Mayor of the Town of LaSalle, as the Deputy Warden on Wednesday, December 10, 2014. He will be Deputy Warden from December 1, 2014 to November 30, 2018. The next election for Deputy Warden will take place on Wednesday, December 12, 2018.
